Where we are
The Region Mittlerer Oberrhein (Middle Upper Rhine Region) is situated in the western part of Baden-Württemberg, one of the most successful states of Germany in relation to its technological development and economic growth.
The territory of the Region Mittlerer Oberrhein ranges from the river Rhine to the northern Black Forest and covers a surface of around 2.150 square kilometre. It is the living space of more than one million people. Our neighbours across the Rhine are Rhineland-Palatinate and the french Region Alsace.
Our administration holds office in Karlsruhe, the largest city in the region with a population of nearly 290.000 inhabitants. It is known for its fan-shaped city plan and as home of the highest Court in Germany (Federal Constitutional Court) and of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Another popular town in our Region is Baden-Baden.
Our Airport Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden is connecting us with numerous destinations all over Europe. The international airports of Frankfurt a.M., Stuttgart and Strasbourg are at a distance of about one hour by train. Here ist the crossing-point of two european railway corridors, from Paris to Budapest and Rotterdam to Genoa.
